Stainless Steel VS Titanium: What's the Difference in Thermal Cups? — Key Process Differences

There are stories in every cup, and warmth in every life. Hello everyone, and welcome to "Dong Dong's Cup Talk" It’s been a while since I last shared knowledge about cups with you all. Today, I’m going to talk about the differences between stainless steel thermal cups and titanium thermal cups. As always, before we dive in, https://www.umbottle.com/ProductsDetail-VB-10486.htmldon’t forget to give this video a thumbs-up after watching. If you’re worried about missing out on my future updates, feel free to follow me so you won’t miss any of my content. I take every share seriously, and since there’s a lot to cover this time, I’ll break it down into several parts as usual.

2. Inside the Manufacturing Process: Key Differences in Core Procedures

Common Processes:

Blanking → Cylindrical Rolling → Beading (for structural reinforcement) → Vacuum Sealing (core insulation layer) → Polishing → Assembly (lid, sealing ring).

Key Process Differences:

1. Welding:

- Stainless Steel: Uses mature high-frequency welding or TIG welding, with high speed (0.8 meters/minute) and high yield (>98%).

- Titanium: Requires specialized high-purity argon gas-shielded TIG welding, and must be cooled immediately in an inert gas chamber after welding. https://www.umbottle.com/ProductsDetail-VB-10486.htmlLast year, a factory used argon gas with insufficient purity (<99.99%), causing widespread oxidation and blue discoloration in the welds, resulting in the entire batch being scrapped.

2. Cleaning & Passivation:

- Stainless Steel: Conventional alkaline cleaning + nitric acid passivation (forms a chromium oxide film for rust prevention).

- Titanium: Strictly chlorine-free! Requires chlorine-free specialized cleaning agents + nitric/hydrofluoric acid mixed passivation (forms a titanium dioxide protective film). https://www.umbottle.com/ProductsDetail-VB-10486.htmlA new factory mistakenly used a chlorine-containing cleaner, causing pitting corrosion on the inner wall of titanium cups and off-odors when customers brewed tea.

3. Surface Treatment:

- Stainless Steel: Easily electroplated, spray-coated, and designed with complex patterns.

- Titanium: https://www.umbottle.com/ProductsDetail-VB-10486.htmlLimited color options (anodizing can produce limited solid colors); over 90% of titanium cups use sandblasting (to conceal weld discoloration).
